Swim Groups

Viper Aquatics offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Viper Aquatics to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

Group 1

This is our entry level group. Athletes as young as 5 years of age can participate in Group 1, provided they can swim one length of a 25-yard pool unassisted.  Swimmers work on development of long, smooth strokes and strong kick, body position, and freestyle and backstroke turns.  Swimmers in Group 1 are expected to participate in meets with Viper Aquatics.

Group 2

Swimmers in Group 2 should be able to perform a legal 50 yards of all four competitive strokes, as well as perform a legal 100 IM (including breaststroke pull-outs).  Swimmers in this group range from ages 7-12.  Workouts in Group 2 stress development of underwater kick, starts, bi-lateral breathing, and further development of all four competitive strokes.  Athletes in Group 2 are expected to participate in meets with Viper Aquatics.

Group 3

Athletes swimming in Group 3 have a minimum of 3 ’B’ USA Swimming time standards.  They are able to swim a legal 100 yards of all four competitive strokes, and are able to do all legal starts, turns, and finishes.  Workouts in Group 3 stress advanced turn and stroke work, breath control, stroke efficiency and goal setting.  Athletes in Group 3 range from ages 9-13.   Athletes in Group 3 are expected to participate in meets with Viper Aquatics.

Group 3.5

Swimmers in Group 3.5 are capable of swimming legal 100s of all four competitive strokes, as well as the 400IM, 500, 800, 1000, and 1650 free.  Swimmers in Group 3.5 range from age 10-15, and need to be highly motivated and coach-recommended for placement.  Workouts stress advanced drills for starts, turns, and swimming strokes.  Athletes also work on the development of breath control, racing strategies, and the expansion of the swimming abilities to include 200s of stroke.  Athletes in Group 3.5 are expected to participate in meets with Viper Aquatics, and are being prepared for a 6-practice-per-week Group 4 schedule.

Group 4

Swimmers in Group 4 are capable of swimming legal 100s of all four competitive strokes, as well as the 400IM, 500, 800, 1000, and 1650 free.  Swimmers in Group 4 range from age 10-15, and need to be highly motivated and coach-recommended for placement.  Workouts stress advanced drills for starts, turns, and swimming strokes.  Athletes also work on the development of breath control, racing strategies, and the expansion of the swimming abilities to include 200s of stroke.  Athletes in Group 4 are expected to participate in meets with Viper Aquatics.

Senior Group

Swimmers in the Senior Group are willing and able to swim any of the competitive strokes at any competitive distance, and are at least 14 years of age.  Yardage and intensity vary by time of the season, but athletes are expected to perform at the highest levels on all sets and dryland work.  Advanced drills, race strategies, and training methods are utilized, and long-term and short-term goal setting strategies are developed.  Athletes in the Senior Group are expected to participate in meets with Viper Aquatics.
